Hamilton’s Economic Plan for a struggling Economy
DO NOT OPEN THE FOLDER UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED STEP 1!!!!!!!
Step 1: As a group, take some time to make a plan that will fix the following issues:
Once you have finished your plan… you may open the folder
Step 2: Take a look at the visuals in the folder. Take some time to consider how Hamilton’s plan was similar or different to your own groups plan
Step 3: How do you think that the divisions that this plan created set the stage for the civil war? Write on a notecard in your folder and turn it in to Ms. Santangelo when you are done with this station.
Step 4: Based on what you know now about Hamilton’s economic plan, decide how this plan fits into your First Presidents Chart in Washington’s section
When you’re done filling in the Station 3 portion of your chart, you are ready for the next station! ☺

- America accumulated a lot of debt from the war since there had been excessive borrowing from countries like France (52 Million to be exact, that’s about $1,414,747,000 in today’s money)
- If these debts were not repaid swiftly, it would give America a bad image
- The economy was based on agriculture, but it wasn’t a great method to raise wealth
- The south had already paid their war debt, but the north had not.
- Both the north and the south wanted the capital to be located in their region
