Step 1: Think of a time in your life where someone warned you not to do something, and you did it anyway. Discuss the topic with your group members and answer these questions in your discussion:

Step 2: Washington’s farewell address has been split into 3 parts for this activity. Each group member will be in charge of reading one part. If you have more than 3 group members, you will have 2 people reading a portion of the address as partners.
Step 4: Discuss with your group:
When you’re done filling in the Station 6 portion of your chart, you are ready for the next station! ☺

- What were the consequences?
- Were they good or bad consequences?

- 1 person will read pages 4-6
- 1 person will read pages 6-9
- While reading your portion take notes on:
- The predictions that George Washington made about the two party system
- Why he was concerned about a 2 party system?
- How did he warn us about the future of our country?
- The predictions that George Washington made about the two party system
- Leave the copies of the Farewell Address in the folder when you are done using them
Step 4: Discuss with your group:
- Do you believe our two party system is good or bad for our country and why?
- How have these parties benefited or chipped away at our political system?
- Would our country be better off without political parties? Or was Washington wrong?
- Did Washington fail to see the benefits of political parties?
When you’re done filling in the Station 6 portion of your chart, you are ready for the next station! ☺
